French writer-director Leos Carax latest masterpiece, Holy Motors (2012), is next up at Splendid Cinema on 26 May.

Holy Motors takes its audience on a journey with M. Oscar (Denis Lavant) across Paris in a day. Along the way, M. Oscar has several “appointments” to keep. Each of these requires him to adopt a completely different identity. We are pretty confident you’ve not seen anything like Holy Motors before.

Holy Motors is a multi-layered riddle of a film which unfolds as an episodic fantasy. It not only celebrates the remarkable acting qualities of Lavant, but also explores each character he incarnates. The film is bizarre and surreal, and yet surprisingly accessible too.

The Guardian‘s Philip French identified Carax’s film having “an atmosphere all its own, a combination of the mysterious and the lucid, of troubling nightmare and pleasing reverie”.

Listed as one of the best films made in 2012 by the Sight and Sound annual critics’ poll, the film also gathers an impressive supporting cast including Edith Scob, Eva Mendes, singer Kylie Minogue and even Carax himself.

Clever, witty and whole lot of fun, Holy Motors is one of the must see movies of the year! Here’s the trailer:

The screening starts at Worcester Arts Workshop on Sansome Street at 6.30pm with the box office open from 6pm. Tickets are £5 in advance or on the door with Café Bliss open for a pre-show treat.
