Based on the director’s own graphic novel, Gainsbourg (Vie héroïque), explores the life and career of French music’s enfant terrible, Serge Gainsbourg, who is probably most famous for his duets with lovers Brigid Bardot and Jane Birkin. Songs such as ‘Bonnie and Clyde’ (with Bardot) and ‘Je t’aime… moi non plus‘ (with Birkin) were signature tunes of late-1960s European Jet-Set culture.
Eric Elmosnino gives a remarkable performance as Gainsbourg which won the Best Actor statute at the annual Cesar Awards (France’s Oscars). The film also won the Best First Feature award for writer/director Sfar. The gorgeous Laetitia Casta plays French superstar Bardot and the late Lucy Gordon as Birkin.
